MINALOC

RISD has a long term relationship with MINALOC since 2007, when the organization first registered in with the Government to work in Rwanda. RISD work is rooted at the grassroots with community, RISD being a Policy Action Research, Advocacy and Networking organization. Community members have rich information; this is what informs RISD’s advocacy work. Local leaders have benefited from RISD in the areas of reliable data provision and capacity strengthening, in particular in the areas of disputes analysis and mediation. Until 2002, RISD was till working in only 1 Cell, 1 Sector, 1 District – the Current Kamonyi District, in Mugina Sector, Cyeru Cell. Today, RISD is working in 11 Districts: Kicukiro, Nyarugenge, Gasabo, Kamonyi, Muhanga, Karongi, Nyaruguru, Kirehe, Gakenke, Musanze and Rubavu. 2016 brings new face on this partnership between RISD and local government, as RISD introduces ICT4D to assist in monitoring and documenting land related disputes, their evolution and mapping different institutions that play or has a potential for playing the role of mediation without going to court. Land related disputes make up about 90% of disputes at the grassroots.
