Securing Land Rights Program Phase-2 (SLRP-2) runs from 22nd July 2015 – June 30th, 2018. The project is implemented by Rwanda Initiative for Sustainable Development (RISD) with funding from the Royal Kingdom of the Netherlands Embassy under contract number 0120635, activity number 27644. The activity contract became effective on 22nd July 2015 under the signatory of Mr. Pieter Dorst, the Head of Development Cooperation at the Embassy, with Ms. Annie Kairaba, the Director of RISD. This SLRP-2 is an extension of the SLRP-1, implemented from February 2012 to June 2014. The program covers 11 districts spread over the 5 Provinces of Rwanda: Gasabo, Nyarugenge and Kicukiro Districts (City of Kigali); Kamonyi, Muhanga and Nyaruguru Districts (Southern Province); Musanze and Gakenke (Northern Province); Rubavu and Karongi (Western Province); and Kirehe in (Eastern Province). The main objective of SLRP-2 which is ‘To contribute to the effectiveness and inclusiveness of the Rwanda Land Reform implementation process for Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Peace as a basis for Food Security of Rwandans who depend on land for their livelihood’. This phase has only two Strategic Objectives (SOs), SO1 is to monitor and analyze the evolution of land related disputes and the mediation mechanism, so as to inform policy makers from a more reliable and informed position; and the SO2 is To educate the population through messages developed from SO1, on the role of mediation in dispute management and to lobby policy makers and local leaders on securing land rights of the vulnerable and on policy change recommendations.
