The 14th meeting of ICE organized by UNECA

The 14th meeting of the intergovernmental committee of experts (ICE) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa Syb-regional Office for Eastern Africa (SRO-EA) took place at Hotel Des Mille Collines, in Kigali, Rwanda, from 15 to 18th March2010. The theme was "Enhancing Food Security in Eastern African Sub-Region". A working group session related to land issues was facilitated by UNECA, RISD and ILC Africa coordinator. The following are the main recommendations from discussions of the presentations. 1. AU and ECA should disseminate the ALPG in pilot countries and assist the pilot countries to domesticate the ALPG 2. Develop an ALPG Score Card and promote its use for monitoring and advocacy 3. Take stock of country success stories in land reform and food security for up scaling 4. Track land use changes and land allocations in the main land and water-abundant countries 5. Improve economic valuation of land-based resources ( land, water, forests and pastures) 6. Ensure gender equity in land access and control; and Establish an electronic land information systems.
