Description

The “Securing Land Rights: Civil Society contribution to effectiveness of Land Reform” is a three year program that was officially launched in 2013, by Hon. Min. Tharcisse Karugarama, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General in Muhanga District. The program is being implemented by RISD, in partnership with CLADHO (Human Rights, LandNet Rwanda Chapter Member), MINIJUST and RNRA, and is funded by the Royal Kingdom of the Netherlands, with contribution from GIZ and ICCO. The program is being implemented in 5 sectors of each of the following 10 districts: Southern Province (Nyaruguru, Muhanga and Kamonyi); Western Province (Karongi and Rubavu); Northern Province (Musanze); Eastern Province (Kirehe and Kayonza); and (Gasabo and Kicukiro) in Kigali City. The program directly benefits 300 Abunzi Committees and a total community population of 1,572,061 (51% women & 49% men). The tripartite relationship of the program is its uniqueness: Two different Government institutions, Local Civil Society organizations and Donors. Initially, preliminary discussions failed to capture the importance and complementarity of both MINIJUST and RNRA.
